For all the men and women who love England and the British Isles. All those who enjoy the areas of unspoilt nature and want to be at one with it. A site for those who long to camp without the friendly bar or amusements to hand, for those who search for a chance to be at one with themselves and the wilds. A site for those within whose veins runs a sense of the wild unspoilt outdoors. A home for those in whom the adventurous spirit still dwells and seeks release. A place for the stifled to begin to regain their sense of freedom and free will. A friendly meeting place for those not afraid of the dark and solitude to meet, chat and explore all their various ideas, skills and techniques. Many of those skills and techniques are rapidly becoming lost forever to all in this increasingly complex society. Whether you are a hiker, cyclist, canoeist, you will find here others of a similar mind and desires. Ultra lightweight camping with a tent or just under a bivy or tarp, leaning against your pack while the water boils on a tiny spirit stove or a camp fire. Fishing in a quiet brook, searching for a seafood meal in rock pools along the shoreline, taking a few leaves of camomile on a hillside for a great drink later. Pausing to look out at the barren snow covered scenery presented by Sutherland in winter, or listening to the hum of insects by a chalk stream in the Downs in summer, watching the stars shining in the night sky through the overhead branches in the New Forest. Yet also a place for those who wish to gain, learn, develop or perfect the many skills and techniques that can help them in an emergency or survival situation. A place where self respect goes hand in hand with respect for the environment around you and your fellow man, self confidence is usually boosted and enhanced by that feeling of knowing that you can cope with whatever problems nature throws your way.

Whether you are a lifetime advocate or new to our cause, we invite you to join us. We welcome new ideas and value enthusiasm from members and volunteers, new and old, expert and novice.
Our founder members are backwoodsmen all more than capable of living comfortably with the minimum of kit in the wilds making our own shelters, equipping our camps, finding and purifying water, making fire without any aids, cooking without pots or making our own pots in the wilds, foraging, tracking, trapping and hunting, making our own hunting tools, making and improvising much of our own equipment and much much more. Perhaps you will learn something from us we are confident that we can learn from others, because that is what you have to be willing to do and you must always be open to accept if you are going to become a backwoodsman, for nobody with a closed mind will ever make the journey from a wild camper or outdoorsman to backwoodsman. Awareness, Patience, Understanding, Knowledge, Ability, Confidence. To walk quietly and softly touching lightly upon the places we pass.
